Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Evening (Saturday, December 7, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 4:44 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 82 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 63 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 7, 2024, from 00.00 to 06.00 WIT showed 13 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 45-112 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 22 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-17 millimeters and durations of 19-53 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-18 millimeters and durations of 24-142 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 5,769 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions with 2,384.
