Aceh's Democracy Index Score Decreased in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) for Aceh Province continues to decline. In 2020, Aceh's IDI was 73.93 points, down from 78 points the previous year.

The IDI is a composite indicator showing the level of democracy development in a region. Its achievement level is measured based on the implementation and development of three aspects of democracy: civil liberties, political rights, and democratic institutions.

Aceh's IDI falls into the "moderate" category. The classification of democracy levels is grouped into three categories: good (index above 80), moderate (index 60 to 80), and poor (index below 60).

The decline in Aceh's IDI is due to a decrease in all indicators. First, the civil liberties index decreased from 93.28 in 2019 to 84.49 in 2020. This index falls into the good category.

Second, the democratic institutions index was recorded at 74.91 in 2020. This figure decreased from 79.08 the previous year. The democratic institutions index falls into the moderate category.

Finally, the political rights index decreased slightly from 65.22 in 2019 to 64.94 in 2020. The political rights index falls into the moderate category.
