The Head of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force, Tito Karnavian, reported that a total of 29 villages and hamlets were lost due to flood and landslide disasters that hit three provinces in Sumatra in late November 2025.

Tito detailed that the largest number of lost villages or hamlets were in Aceh, with a total of 21 villages. These were spread across four districts, namely Aceh Tamiang, Nagan Raya, Aceh Tengah, and Gayo Lues. The other lost villages were in North Sumatra, totaling eight villages, spread across two districts, namely South Tapanuli and Central Tapanuli. Meanwhile, the government reported that there were no lost villages in West Sumatra. According to Tito, a number of lost villages need to be urgently resolved or addressed. This will have an impact on the administrative process.

"This also requires resolution, relocation, and also village administration in the future. Because these lost villages, will we rebuild them or remove them from government administration?" he said.
