A survey by the Indonesian Public Opinion Discussion and Study Group (KedaiKOPI) shows that the majority of young people in Indonesia prefer presidential candidates based on their vision and mission rather than campaign promises.

This is evident in respondents' priorities when choosing a president. Vision and mission ranked highest, deemed very important by 39.5% of respondents.

Below vision and mission, other factors considered very important by young people include the presidential candidate's personality (36.8%) and track record (32.2%).

Meanwhile, only a small percentage of young people (8.3%) considered campaign promises very important, as illustrated in the graph above.

KedaiKOPI founder Hendri Satrio stated that respondents, particularly Gen Z, prioritize vision and mission over political gimmicks.

“This proves that young voters are discerning in choosing their future leaders,” said Hendri, as quoted from a press release on Tuesday (December 5, 2023).

The KedaiKOPI survey was conducted as part of the "Mobil Ide Rakyat" (People's Idea Car) program, running from November 18-25, 2023. This program aims to capture public aspirations, particularly those of young people, regarding the 2024 General Election.

The survey was conducted in three provinces: DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. Survey locations were determined by the survey team, with a total of 1,269 respondents.

The survey team visited five locations across these three provinces: Pos Bloc and Pasar Baru in Jakarta; Blok M in Jakarta; Jalan Braga in Bandung; Universitas Singaperbangsa in Karawang; and Universitas Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah in South Tangerang.

The majority of respondents were from Gen Z (78.1%), followed by millennials (15.6%), Gen X (5.6%), and baby boomers (0.7%). Students/university students made up the largest occupational group (52.3%), followed by private employees (23.9%), and freelancers (8.4%).
