Gerindra emerged as the top choice among Gen Z voters, according to a survey by *Kompas* Research and Development (Litbang). The party led by Prabowo Subianto achieved a 23% electability rating among Gen Z respondents (aged 17-25).
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) followed in second place with an 18% electability rating, followed by the Democratic Party with 8.7%.
Perindo came next with 7.1% electability, while the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Golkar both received 6.3% of Gen Z votes.
Other parties, including Nasdem, PKS, PAN, and PPP, had lower electability ratings, as shown in the accompanying graph.
Although Gerindra was the favorite party among young respondents, the *Kompas* Litbang survey found that the most popular presidential candidate among this group was not Prabowo Subianto.
A majority (31%) of respondents chose Ganjar Pranowo from the PDI-P as their preferred presidential candidate. Prabowo himself came in second with 28.2% of the vote.
Anies Baswedan, the presidential candidate nominated by Nasdem, received only 8.2% of the Gen Z vote.
Based on the permanent voter list (DPT) compiled by the General Elections Commission (KPU), the number of Gen Z voters is recorded at 49.29 million, or 24.1% of the total voters in the 2024 election. *Kompas* Litbang believes this group will significantly influence the outcome of the upcoming election.
"However, given the fluidity of young people's political stances and the ambiguity of their choices, various possibilities remain open as the election process unfolds," wrote the *Kompas* Litbang team in their report on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
This periodic *Kompas* Litbang survey involved 1,364 respondents randomly selected using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 Indonesian provinces.
Data collection was conducted from July 27 to August 7, 2023, through face-to-face interviews. The margin of error is approximately 2.65%, with a 95% confidence level.
