Litbang Kompas's perception survey captured a number of the most common obstacles faced by Indonesian women as primary family breadwinners, or what can be called female breadwinners.

As many as 46.3% of respondents believe that the double burden of managing household affairs while also earning a living is the main obstacle experienced by women who are family breadwinners.

The survey also found that the majority, or 62.2% of respondents, consider it inappropriate for women to be the family's main breadwinner. Meanwhile, 37.5% feel that it is normal and common.

"This indicates that traditional gender norms are still deeply rooted in the social fabric of society," Litbang Kompas wrote.

This survey involved 510 respondents from 76 cities in 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from December 8-11, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error was approximately 4.24% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
