Payakumbuh City's 2023 current price Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached Rp8,982.35 billion. This represents a 4.7% increase compared to the previous year's Rp8,250.3 billion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth recorded a decrease of 1.65%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 144,730, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp62,020,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 157th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles is the leading sector.
Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles in Payakumbuh City is the mainstay sector, contributing the largest share to the 2023 GRDP, reaching Rp2.25 trillion. This represents a 4.66% growth compared to the previous year's Rp2.07 trillion.
The second largest contributor to Payakumbuh City's GRDP is the construction sector, which grew by 5.84% to Rp1.23 trillion, followed by the transportation and warehousing sector with a GRDP of Rp1.09 trillion (5.59%).
Finally, rounding out the top five GRDP sectors in Payakumbuh City is public administration, defense, and compulsory social security, with a value of Rp628.95 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 1.88% year-on-year from the previous year's Rp594.22 billion.
