Manufacturing performance in Vietnam and Indonesia was hit the hardest among ASEAN countries in March 2026.

Manufacturing conditions in Indonesia and Vietnam contrasted with those in Thailand and Malaysia, which saw improvements. Meanwhile, Myanmar and the Philippines remained relatively stable, as shown in the chart.

S&P Global noted that manufacturing performance in Indonesia and Vietnam was hit by the war in West Asia (the Middle East) involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In Vietnam, rising oil prices drove up logistics, fuel, and transportation costs.

“As a result, nearly half of respondents reported higher input costs in March, with the pace of inflation the sharpest since April 2022,” S&P said.

As higher input costs are often passed on to customers, output prices also increased at one of the fastest rates since the survey began in 2011.

In Indonesia, the impact of the conflict was reflected in rising raw material prices and supply disruptions, which in turn affected demand and manufacturing output.

Overall weak conditions also led to slower purchasing activity, reduced backlogs of work, and softer employment.

“On the pricing side, input cost inflation increased compared to the previous survey period and reached its highest level since March 2024,” S&P added.
