Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, March 19, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (March 19, 2026) at 15:33 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 18 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 19, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 127 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 34-78 seconds.

Then, 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-10 millimeters and durations of 33-35 seconds, as well as 19 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 30-103 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,091 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (587 eruptions) while Mount Ibu erupted 433 times.
