Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, March 19, 2026)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (March 19, 2026) at 14:36 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is around 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 130 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Caution). Earthquake observations on March 19, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 2 harmonic events with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 31-54 seconds.

Then, 34 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and earthquake durations of 79-238 seconds, as well as 4 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 22-26 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,091 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (587 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 14 times.
