Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Banjar Increased by 0.39% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, reached 5.61% in 2023.

This figure is up 0.39% from the previous year's 5.22%, and up 2.16% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Banjar Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Banjar Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 5.61% of the total population.

Compared to 12 other regencies/cities in South Kalimantan Province, Banjar Regency's PoU ranks 9th. The regency with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Tanah Bumbu Regency (2.31%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Barito Kuala Regency (6.73%).
