Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Early This Morning (Wednesday, February 11, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) at 02:07 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 18 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on February 11, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 145 eruption/explosion earthquakes with an amplitude of 14-28 millimeters and a duration of 37-74 seconds.

Then, 2 emission earthquakes with an amplitude of 3-4 millimeters and a duration of 33-42 seconds as well as 9 harmonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 2-6 millimeters and a duration of 36-101 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 562 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (289 eruptions) while Mount Ibu erupted 233 times.
