Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts on Friday Afternoon, Status is Warning

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (September 26, 2025) at 11:54 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 56 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimeters and a duration of 97 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Warning). Seismicity observations on September 26, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 2 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-29.6 millimeters and durations of 76-102 seconds.

Subsequently, 5 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 32-60 seconds, and 5 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-4.4 millimeters and durations of 71-125 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a sectoral Southwest-Northeast distance of 7 kilometers from the center of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,349 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,496 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 618 times.
