Prevalence of Food Consumption Insufficiency in Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Increased by 2.79% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra, reached 8.67% in 2024.

This figure increased by 2.79% from the previous year''s 5.88%, while in the last 5 years, it increased by 2.87%.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.27% in 2024. This means that the PoU in Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity conditions.

This means that 8.67% of the total population in Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency consumes food but does not meet their energy needs.
