Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, December 25, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Thursday (December 25, 2025) at 3:41 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 32 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 16 millimeters and a duration of 93 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on December 25, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WIB showed 33 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-23 millimeters and durations of 59-137 seconds.

Followed by 13 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 36-95 seconds, and 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2 millimeters and a duration of 137 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 13 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks along Besuk Kobokan, as there is a potential for hot ash clouds and lahars to extend up to 17 kilometers from the peak.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,508 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 3,130 events.
