Food Insecurity Prevalence in Karawang Increased by 3.33% in the Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Karawang Regency, West Java, reached 5.93% in 2023.

This figure is down 0.8% from the previous year's 6.73%, while it has increased by 3.33% over the past 5 years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Karawang Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Karawang Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient is less than 5.93% of the total population.
