Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Evening (Thursday, April 10, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 5:38 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 4 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 600 meters above the peak or 1,687 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with moderate to thick intensity towards the south. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 10, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 342 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5-34 millimeters and durations of 32.1-64.34 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 17-18 millimeters, s-p 16.79-26.94 seconds, and durations of 72.74-110.43 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-4 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,730 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,262 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 77 times.
