Who's Leading the Disaster Relief Fund? Indonesians' Views

According to a Litbang Kompas survey, 27.3% of Indonesian respondents believe that influencers or public figures are the parties most visibly mobilizing aid in the initial phase of a disaster.

This was followed by local communities (20%), then local governments (19.3%), the central government (14.3%), and community organizations or 'ormas' (11.9%).

Meanwhile, official government institutions received the lowest proportion, at only 3.3%.

"This condition illustrates that local governments and local communities, which are relatively closer geographically and socially, have not been able to match the reach of public figures operating through digital networks," Litbang Kompas stated in its report on Monday (22/12/2025).

Litbang Kompas also found that the majority, or 92.7% of respondents, felt that influencers could encourage people to donate during a disaster.

This figure comprises 45.5% of respondents who considered influencers "very influential" and 47.2% who considered them "influential."

"This is certainly inseparable from the involvement of their follower base and the influencers' ability to transform collective emotion into concrete actions in the form of donations," Litbang Kompas said.

The survey involved 510 randomly selected respondents from 76 cities across 38 provinces, proportional to the population in each province.

Data collection was conducted from December 8-11, 2025, via telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is +/-4.24% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
