Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, December 19, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Friday (19/12/2025) at 3:58 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 38 times.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption visual was not observed. Mount Semeru's eruption is still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Siaga/Alert). Seismicity observations on December 19, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WIB showed 22 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-21 millimeters and durations of 65-108 seconds.

Then, 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 2 mm and a duration of 44 seconds, and 8 gas emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 32-58 seconds occurred.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 13 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond this distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river borders) along Besuk Kobokan because of the potential for expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to 17 kilometers from the peak.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,408 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 3,062 incidents.
