Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Afternoon, Volcanic Ash Height 300 Meters Above Peak

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (15/10/2025) at 17:24 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column was observed to be around 300 meters above the peak or 1,723 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity moving westward. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 9.8 millimeters and a duration of 39 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on October 15, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 3 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 4.1-9.8 millimeters and a duration of 32-42 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 15 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 1.8-4.3 millimeters and a duration of 27-41 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic tremor with an amplitude of 5.6 millimeters (s-p unobserved) and a duration of 116 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic flows from the South and Southeast, West, and Northeast sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,661 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,621 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 290 times.
