Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupted on Wednesday Morning, Activity Level at Alert

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (6/8/2025) at 09:17 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column was approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

Visual observation of the eruption was not possible. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 12.5 millimeters and a duration of 43 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 6, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA, showed 27 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.8-32.7 millimeters and durations of 35-43 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 24 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-5.8 millimeters and durations of 28-39 seconds, and 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 4.6 millimeters, S-P 8 seconds, and a duration of 40 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from falling/sliding lava and pyroclastic flows from the South, Southeast, West, and Northeast sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,482 volcano eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,196 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 212 times.
