Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Tuesday, March 3, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) at 14:57 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 9 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column is approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 37 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 3, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 113 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-68 seconds.

Then, 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 31-42 seconds, as well as 14 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 33-226 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 825 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (418 eruptions) while Mount Ibu erupted 356 times.
