The number of National Health Insurance ((JKN)) participants under the Social Security Guarantee Agency reached 203.28 million by October 2018, a 46.49 million (29.65%) increase from the end of 2015. Of this number, 92.24 million (45%) are recipients of the Healthy Indonesia Card (KIS), exempted from premiums, with a budget reaching Rp 25.5 trillion by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the number of First-Level Healthcare Facilities (FKTP) serving as National Health Insurance providers reached 22,467 units by August 2018, up from 18,437 units at the end of 2014. Furthermore, Advanced Referral Healthcare Facilities (FKRTL) for clinics increased to 234 units compared to only 68 units at the end of 2014. Similarly, referral hospitals increased to 2,196 units from 1,613 units.
The significantly higher expenditure compared to premium income has resulted in an annual JKN deficit. By September 2018, the financial deficit reached Rp 7.95 trillion. This figure comprises premium income of Rp 60.57 trillion and expenditure of Rp 68.53 trillion.
