There are 284.6 million BPJS Health participants in Indonesia at the beginning of 2026, here's the breakdown.

According to BPJS Health data, as of February 2026, there were 284.6 million participants in the National Health Insurance (JKN), equivalent to 98.74% of Indonesia's total population.

Based on their type of participation, the largest group were Recipients of Health Insurance Premium Assistance (PBI JK), with 96.83 million people.

Below are the details of BPJS Health's membership in Indonesia as of February 2026, by type:

1. Recipients of Health Insurance Premium Assistance (PBI JK): 96.63 million people
2. Non-Wage-Earning Workers in Local Governments (PBPU Pemda): 48.87 million people
3. Wage-Earning Workers in Business Entities (PPU BU): 38.72 million people
4. Wage-Earning Workers in Public Institutions (PPU PN): 19.94 million people
5. Non-Wage-Earning Workers (PBPU): 17.17 million people
6. Non-Workers (BP): 5.01 million people
7. Inactive Members: 58.32 million people

The Director General of BPJS Health, Prihati Pujowaskito, highlighted the high number of inactive BPJS Health members.

"This poses a challenge for BPJS Health to reduce the number of inactive members through various strategies and with the support of stakeholders," said BPJS Health Director General Prihati Pujowaskito at a hearing with Commission IX of the House of Representatives on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

In detail, 13.48 million members were deactivated due to unpaid premiums, and 44.84 million people came from the deactivation of PBI members and participants funded by local governments.

"The update of data in the last two months also had an impact on the deactivation of about 11 million members, some of whom became independent members," said Prihati.
