The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there were more than 11 million participants in the National Health Insurance (JKN) Benefit Recipients (PBI) program who were deactivated at the beginning of 2026.
The deactivation was based on the update of the National Socio-Economic Welfare Single Data (DTSEN), which will continue to be updated every three months.
According to the reasons, 96.59% or 10.64 million participants were deactivated because they were in deciles 6-10.
Meanwhile, JKN PBI is only prioritized for low-income or extremely poor people in deciles 1-5.
Here are the details of the reasons for the deactivation of JKN PBI by BPJS Kesehatan in February 2026:
- Decile shift: 10,642,469 participants
- Segment change: 151,733 participants
- Already reactivated but did not update DTSEN within six months: 80,418 participants
- Died: 78,929 participants
- NIK not registered in DTSEN: 40,651 participants
- Civil servants/TNI/Police/SOEs/Legislative members/Certified teachers: 22,518 participants
- Bansos not used as intended: 515 participants
In addition, out of the total deactivated PBI participants, 106,153 of them were suffering from catastrophic diseases.
"So this becomes the first target for field checks or ground checks," said BPS Deputy Head Sonny Hari Budiutomo at a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, Wednesday (15/4/2026).
