The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.2 million cases by Saturday, March 19, 2022. The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 9.83 percent. GISAID recorded 836,080 Omicron cases in the UK. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.79 percent compared to the previous day.
Following the UK, the United States is in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the US grew by 6.19 percent. Daily figures show a 1.51 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 682,050 cases.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 10.74 percent to 141,230 cases compared to the previous week. Germany recorded 111,060 Omicron cases (a 1.21 percent increase), and France reported 65,297 Omicron cases (an 11.76 percent increase).
As for Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 8,566, a 0.19 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
