Club World Cup Champion, Real Madrid Sets New Record

For the second time in three years, Real Madrid lifted the Club World Cup trophy. *Los Galácticos* (Real Madrid's nickname) were confirmed as the best club in the world in 2016 following a hard-fought victory against Kashima Antlers in the final on Sunday (December 18th). This 2016 victory was Real Madrid's third title under Zinedine Zidane, following their Champions League and UEFA Super Cup triumphs.

This latest success establishes Real Madrid as the most successful team in the competition's history. This is their second Club World Cup trophy. Combined with their achievements in the Intercontinental Cup, the precursor to this tournament, Madrid has amassed a total of five trophies. This is a new record for Madrid, surpassing the previous record of four titles held by Italian team AC Milan. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and seven other teams have each won three trophies.
