A missile fell and exploded in Poland, killing two local residents on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. According to Reuters, Poland's Foreign Minister initially stated that the missile was Russian-made.
However, on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the Polish President declared that there was no concrete evidence showing that the missile was launched by Russia.
The Russian government also denied responsibility. "The Russian Ministry of Defense denies that its missile entered Polish territory, calling the report a provocation aimed at escalating the situation," Reuters reported on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
The missile incident in Poland sparked widespread concern, as Poland is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), an international military alliance comprising major countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as dozens of European nations.
If the missile that exploded in Poland was indeed launched by Russia, it could potentially trigger a retaliatory strike from NATO and create a larger-scale war.
Indonesia has maintained long-standing political and economic cooperation with Poland, which continues to this day. However, Poland is not a major trading partner for Indonesia.
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Indonesia's exports to Poland from January to August 2022 totaled US$662.29 million. This represents only 0.3% of total national exports, which amounted to US$194.55 billion during the same period.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's imports from Poland from January to August 2022 totaled US$160.4 million. This figure represents only 0.1% of total national imports, which amounted to US$159.67 billion during the same period.
These figures indicate that export-import transactions with Poland play a very small role in Indonesia's total foreign trade.
