Fadel Muhammad Removed from Deputy Chairperson Position of the MPR; This is the Number of MPR Members for the 2019-2024 Period

The Deputy Chairperson of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Fadel Muhammad, was removed from his position following a plenary session of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) which decided on the replacement of the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR from the DPD on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

Currently, the MPR for the 2019-2024 period comprises 711 members. This consists of 575 members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and 136 members of the DPD.

Previously, during the 13th Plenary Session of the DPD RI, with the agenda of the Closing Speech at the end of the Fifth Annual Session of 2021-2022, a majority of DPD RI members requested the removal of Fadel Muhammad from his position as Deputy Chairperson of the MPR RI from the DPR RI.

This request, formalized in a motion signed by 91 out of 136 DPD RI members, was submitted to the Chairperson of the DPD RI, AA Lanyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, during the Plenary Session held in the Nusantara V Building, DPR RI Complex, Senayan, on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Chairperson La Nylla Mattalitti also revealed that the number of DPD members expressing a vote of no confidence increased to 97 members, and they decided to agree to his removal from the position of Deputy Chairperson of the MPR.

As a replacement, Tamsil Linrung was appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR representing the DPD RI after receiving 39 votes during the voting process.

Fadel Muhammad was elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR from the DPD in the 2019-2024 period after receiving the most votes, namely 59 votes. The man born in 1952 defeated other candidates, such as GKR Hermas (46 votes), Yorrys Raweyai (16 votes), and Deddi Iskandar Batu Bara (5 votes).
