Responses of Indonesian Citizens When Witnessing Government Injustice: Have You Ever Experienced This?

A Kompas Research and Development survey reveals various responses from Indonesian citizens when witnessing injustice from the authorities, including the government.

32.3% of respondents chose to voice their complaints on social media.

"Social media has also become the primary space for citizens to channel their aspirations when access to the government becomes increasingly limited," wrote the Kompas Research and Development researcher in their report on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Furthermore, 25.8% of respondents usually participate in discussions or communities, and another 25.8% choose to remain silent. Meanwhile, 13.2% voiced their dissatisfaction by participating in peaceful protests or demonstrations.

"Amidst uncertainty and weakening public trust, maintaining demonstrations as a legitimate channel for public aspirations is key to balancing power."

A small percentage of respondents could only pray and expressed disappointment when treated unfairly by the government, each accounting for only 0.1%.

This survey involved 528 respondents from 72 cities across 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from September 8-12, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.22% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
