Few Indonesian Citizens Participate in the 2025 Free Lebaran Homecoming Program

According to a survey by the Indonesian Public Opinion Discussion and Study Group (KedaiKOPI), 85% of Indonesian respondents plan to return to their hometowns ("mudik") for Eid al-Fitr in 2025.

Of this group, only 9.2% of respondents stated they would participate in a free homecoming program. This comprises 5.7% who have already secured a quota for the government's free homecoming program, and 3.5% who will receive it from their workplace or a private entity.

"However, 61% of those returning home will use their own funds for the journey, indicating that the majority of the population still relies on their own finances without subsidy assistance," wrote KedaiKOPI in its release on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

In detail, 46.5% of respondents will use personal funds for their homecoming trip, while 14.5% will not participate in the free homecoming program due to quota exhaustion.

Meanwhile, 29.8% of respondents plan to participate in the free homecoming program but are still waiting for quota availability.

The KedaiKOPI survey involved 1,130 respondents spread across Indonesia, comprising 60% women and 40% men.

Data collection was conducted from March 5-13, 2025, using the Online-Computerized Assisted Self Interview (CASI) method.

Respondents were predominantly millennials (58.3%), Generation Z (29.5%), and Generation X (12.2%).
