According to Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, there were 147,55 million people in Indonesia who traveled during the Lebaran transport period from March 13-29, 2026.
The number of commuters using public transport during the 2026 Lebaran period reached 23.54 million passengers, an increase of 10.87% compared to last year's 21.23 million passengers.
The most widely used mode of public transport by commuters was trains, with a proportion of around 31.05% of total public transport passengers.
When compared to last year, the number of train passengers during the 2026 Lebaran travel period increased, as did other modes of transport, as shown in the graph.
From a safety perspective, police data showed that there were 3,517 traffic accidents during the 2026 Lebaran transport period, a decrease of 6.31% compared to 2025.
According to Dudy, this year's achievements should be appreciated and used as a basis for evaluation for future improvements.
"I would like to emphasize again that safety remains the top priority in every transportation arrangement," said Dudy in a press release on Monday (March 30, 2026).
"There can be no compromise in terms of the suitability of facilities, the readiness of infrastructure, or compliance with operational standards," he said.
