A survey by the Indonesian Political Indicator research institute shows that there are a number of leadership qualities that Indonesian citizens believe presidential candidates (capres) should possess.

The results show that the majority, or 40.8% of respondents, are looking for a leader who is honest and clean from corruption. This is followed by 32.5% of respondents who seek a capres with a caring nature towards the people.

"So, any capres who is considered honest, clean from corruption, and caring towards the people, is likely to excel," said Indikator's Senior Researcher Burhanuddin Muhtadi in an online presentation of his survey on Saturday (30/9/2023).

Next, the quality of being a decisive leader is ranked third with a proportion of 6.8%. This is followed by the qualities of being authoritative and religious, each chosen by 5.5% and 4.5% of respondents respectively.

"Many capres boast about being the most devout in the world. But only 4.5% consider that important," said Burhanuddin.

Meanwhile, the level of intellectuality or education of the capres was chosen the least by respondents, namely 3.2%. While another 6.8% did not answer or did not know.

This survey was conducted on 1,200 respondents aged 17 years or older, or already married at the time of the survey. The sample was selected randomly using a multistage random sampling method.

Data was collected from August 25 to September 3, 2023, using face-to-face interviews conducted by trained interviewers. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.9% and a 95% confidence level.
