The Democratic Party has declared its support for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.
"We believe that under Mr. Prabowo's leadership, continuity and change towards a more advanced Indonesia in the future can be realized," said the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), at the Democratic Party's National Leadership Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday (21/9/2023).
With the entry of the Democrats, the strength of the "Indonesia Maju Coalition" (Advanced Indonesia Coalition), comprising parties supporting Prabowo in the 2024 election, has increased.
However, which is the strongest party within the coalition?
Based on the last election's vote count, the strongest party in Prabowo's supporting coalition is the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
Here's the breakdown of the vote count for parties in the Indonesia Maju Coalition in the 2019 DPR Election:
* Gerindra: 17.6 million votes (12.57% of the total national valid votes)
* Golkar: 17.2 million votes (12.31%)
* Democrat: 10.9 million votes (7.77%)
* PAN: 9.6 million votes (6.84%)
* PBB: 1.1 million votes (0.79%)
Combined, the parties currently supporting Prabowo control approximately 56.4 million votes, or 40.2% of the total national valid votes in the last election.
On the other hand, based on the number of DPR seats obtained, the strongest party in Prabowo's coalition is the Golkar Party.
Here's the breakdown of the parliamentary seats obtained by parties in the Indonesia Maju Coalition in the 2019 DPR Election:
* Golkar: 85 seats (14.78% of the total DPR seats)
* Gerindra: 78 seats (13.57%)
* Democrat: 54 seats (9.39%)
* PAN: 44 seats (7.65%)
* PBB: 0 seats (0%)
Cumulatively, the parties in Prabowo's supporting coalition control 261 seats, or 45% of the total DPR seats for the 2019-2024 period.
