Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Sunday, April 14, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (14/4/2024) at 12:01 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 135 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 14, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 volcanic tremor events with amplitudes of 1.4-2.9 millimeters and durations of 32-180 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 harmonic tremor events with amplitudes of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and durations of 51-313 seconds, and 8 hybrid/multiple-phase earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-4.4 millimeters, S-P intervals of 1-2.3 seconds, and durations of 16-20 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 527 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (172 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 69 times.
