Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts on Wednesday Morning, Activity Level at Warning

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (15/10/2025) at 09.21 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 6 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 8,000 meters above the peak (9,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Warning). Seismicity observations on October 15, 2025, from 00.00-06.00 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 546 seconds.

Then, 2 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-5.9 millimeters and durations of 31-48 seconds, as well as 1 non-harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 74 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral radius from the southwest-north-northeast of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,657 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,620 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 701 times.
