Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, August 3, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 08:37 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 112 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 1,200 meters above the peak or 2,525 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 183 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 3, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 26 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 30-163 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 30-34 seconds, and 131 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 4-14 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,322 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java experienced the most eruptions (799 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 746 times.
