Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, September 26, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (September 26, 2025) at 05:02 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 53 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 95 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 26, 2025, at 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 3 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14.8 millimeters and earthquake durations of 79-95 seconds.

Furthermore, 5 gust earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.9-10.5 millimeters and earthquake durations of 38-44 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters (s-p unobserved) and an earthquake duration of 129 seconds.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral distance from the southwest to northeast of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,342 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,493 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 615 times.
