Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, December 19, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 8:52 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 16 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 86 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 19, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 13 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 20-28 millimeters and durations of 46-76 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 4-14 mm and durations of 39-51 seconds, and 41 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-18 millimeters and durations of 18-56 seconds.

The PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.
