Prevalence of Undernourishment in Situbondo Rose by 4.02% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Situbondo Regency, East Java, reached 17.35% in 2024.

This figure increased by 4.02% from the previous year's 13.33%, while in the last 5 years, it rose by 6.17%.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.27% in 2024. This means that the PoU in Situbondo Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that 17.35% of the population in Situbondo Regency experiences inadequate energy intake despite food consumption.

Compared to 37 other regencies/cities in East Java Province, Situbondo Regency ranks last in PoU. The region with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Surabaya City (2.37%).
