The Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Solok Selatan Reached 8.01% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Solok Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, was 8.01% in 2023.

This figure decreased by 0.03% from the previous year's 8.04%, while it increased by 2.21% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Solok Selatan Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes insufficient food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Solok Selatan Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy does not reach 8.01% of the total population.

Compared to 18 other regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province, Solok Selatan Regency ranks 12th in terms of PoU. The areas with the lowest PoU (top ranking) are Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency (5.88%), and the highest (bottom ranking) is Mentawai Islands Regency (10.62%).
