Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Sunday, February 15, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday (February 15, 2026) at 14:03 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 38 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is around 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 65 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on February 15, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 113 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 37-87 seconds.

Then, 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-6 millimeters and durations of 39-47 seconds, as well as 22 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and durations of 47-170 seconds.

PVMBG advises the community around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2.0 kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 607 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (314 eruptions) while Mount Ibu erupted 253 times.
