Mount Ibu Erupts Again Early This Morning (Friday, December 6, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 04.40 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 67 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10 millimeters and a duration of 41 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 6, 2024, from 18.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 16 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 32-80 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 13 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-14 millimeters and durations of 25-65 seconds, and 47 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 2-10 millimeters and durations of 6-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,734 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions with 2,369.
