Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Bintan Increased by 6.92% in the Last 5 Years

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, reached 13.64% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 1.64% from the previous year's 15.28%, but increased by 6.92% in the last 5 years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.27% in 2024. This means that the PoU in Bintan Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.
