Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, December 8, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (8/12/2025) at 1:45 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 51 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on December 8, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 68 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 45-129 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-14 millimeters and durations of 47-152 seconds, as well as 12 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-20 millimeters and durations of 20-104 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,261 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,985 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,610 times.
