Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, February 25, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) at 15:18 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 19 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17 millimeters and a duration of 39 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on February 25, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 110 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 39-68 seconds.

Additionally, there were 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-7 millimeters and durations of 37-40 seconds, as well as 7 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-18 millimeters and durations of 37-40 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 768 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (402 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 320 times.
