Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight, Ash Plume 600 Meters Above Peak

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (September 26, 2025) at 10:03 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 7 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 600 meters above the peak or 2,023 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity heading west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 34.6 millimeters and a duration of 42 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA, showed 78 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6.5-18.6 millimeters and durations of 44-64 seconds.

Followed by 66 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.6-9.1 millimeters and durations of 28-45 seconds, and 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.3 millimeters and a duration of 127 seconds.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from falling/landslides of lava and hot clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,367 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,502 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 284 times.
