Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Ash Column Reaches 1,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (15/10/2025) at 01:35 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column was observed to be around 1,000 meters above the peak (11,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest, west, and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 546 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 15, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA, showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 246 seconds.

Subsequently, 2 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-47.3 mm and durations of 41-50 seconds, and 5 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-5.9 millimeters and durations of 60-91 seconds occurred.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a radius of 6 kilometers and a sectoral area of 7 kilometers from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, covering the southwest-north-northeast directions.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,655 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,620 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 700 times.
