Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning, Eruption Height Approximately 900 Meters

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 06.05 WIT. This is the second eruption in the last week.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 900 meters above the peak, or 1,987 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 14, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 282 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 30.23-56.1 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 23 millimeters, an S-P time of 21.13 seconds, and a duration of 69.94 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-6 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,811 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,287 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 82 times.
