Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon, Ash Column Height Around 3,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (October 13, 2025) at 1:13 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 3,000 meters above the peak or 4,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18.5 millimeters and a duration of 91 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 13, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 3 times of emission earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 32-37 seconds.

Subsequently, 5 times of non-harmonic tremors with an amplitude of 2.2-7.4 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 62-99 seconds, as well as 3 times of distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 7.4-47.3 millimeters s-p 19.7 seconds, and an earthquake duration of 90-94 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,637 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,615 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 696 times.
